  Volunteer & Help

Volunteers donate thousands of hours of service each year and are an important part of fulfilling the Presbyterian Night Shelter's mission. Without volunteers, our staff simply couldn't provide the services and programs our clients need.

Please note that we have updated some of the volunteer procedures. If you have questions about these changes, please contact the volunteer coordinator.

If you are volunteering as an individual:
PNS requires all volunteers to complete and return a volunteer application and code of conduct before their service begins. Additionally, volunteers must send in a $15 application fee (to offset processing fees PNS incurs). If you would like to volunteer at the Lowdon-Schutts women and children's building or Safe Haven, our mentally ill facility, you also will need to fill out the criminal background form.

Once your paperwork has been received by PNS, and you've been approved, the volunteer coordinator will contact you to schedule your time of service. (Please note that the background check may take up to two weeks to complete.) Click here to download the three forms.

If you are volunteering as a group (four or more people):
For groups/organizations, PNS asks that the group volunteer form be completed by the group's contact person. Each group member also is required to sign the group code of conduct, which is included in the application. PNS respectfully asks that the group does not exceed 10 people. Groups do not have to pay the $15 application fee.

If you are a student:
PNS welcomes students 12 years of age and over at the Main Shelter, Safe Haven and Patriot House and students 7 and over at the Lowdon-Schutts women and children's building. Students are required to fill out the volunteer application and code of conduct. The application fee is waived. Students under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

Service Learning/Community Service:
Volunteers who need community service hours must follow the same rules as other volunteers. A volunteer application, code of conduct and criminal background form is required, as well as the $15 application fee.

New volunteers are asked to attend a one-hour training and orientation session. These sessions are on the fourth Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. in the Main Shelter (2400 Cypress St., Fort Worth, TX 76102). Snacks and drinks will be provided and volunteers must RSVP.

Priority will be placed on scheduling volunteers who will commit to at least six months of consistent service. The volunteers who work regular shifts (bi-weekly, weekly or bi-monthly) make a huge impact on the lives of the homeless and provide PNS operations with a much needed and reliable resource. PNS does not provide volunteer opportunities for children under the age of 12. Children 12 and older are welcome to volunteer, with appropriate guardian supervision, by serving meals or preparing sandwiches in the Main Shelter.

Completed forms and the application fee (checks only) can be sent to the Presbyterian Night Shelter, P.O. Box 2645, Fort Worth, TX, 76113.
